About

Always Has Been Always Will Be

Since 1949, KIVY has been the place to turn for daily coverage of local news, weather and sports, plus special events. Today, we are still the only daily media outlet whose primary focus is covering the local events in Houston, Trinity and Leon counties. Our entire morning drive (6 to 10 am) is devoted to local news and information. And, our broadcast center is located in the heart of our trade area, on the square in downtown Crockett.

We’ve been broadcasting and serving our communities since 1949. KIVY was founded by Jim Gibbs, in our entire history, the station ownership and management has only changed one time. Leon Hunt is the current owner/general manager. Leon started his broadcast career in 1974, working part-time at KIVY while attending college. We live in a rapidly changing world, but we are proud of our heritage. And just as always, KIVY will continue to be a stable partner that our listeners and advertisers can depend on.

Join Derek Martin, who gets the week-day mornings going at 6:00 am Monday through Friday for your Farm and Ranch news. Derek brings you important information that helps the farmers and ranchers in this area. Plus, there are interviews with agents from around the listening area to address problems and provide information you may be needing.

KIVY has the Most Popular Morning Team in East Texas

For 25  years, East Texans were awakened to  the familiar voice of Lonnie Hunt. A lifelong East Texan, Lonnie got listeners off to a good start at 7 o’clock each weekday. Lonnie departed for the big time of Austin at the end of 2011, leaving Joanne Warner, a transplanted Cajun, to give you everything you need to know...plus a few things you don’t. Join Joanne and Derek Martin weekday mornings from 8 am to 10 am as they get the day going with local news and events, contests, and special guests.
